History of the city. More than that, also a natural history museum and some interesting part of the local old life.
I saw a wonderful exhibition of the history and culture of the ancient Roman Empire at the Kuopio Museum in October 2022.
Museum of Kuopio was a excelent place to visit durring a rainy day. It offers great selection of history, both for Savo area and also natural history of Finland. There is a great number of different items from different eras on display. And also includes is the second floor of lobby which has a changing display. At the time of visit there was macrophotography of insects, which was amazing 5/5 recommendation for it.
Fabulous museum, so much to see and the natural history part is brilliant. Really welcoming staff in museum and coffee shop. Lovely coffee and cake. The wildlife photographer of the year entries were on display in one of their exhibition spaces which was an added bonus! Great way to spend a couple of hours on a rainy day 😊
The display of Finnish culture and Julius Caesar was magnificent
Amazing and very interesting. The visit is another must if you are in Kuopio
The museum used to be nice and beautiful. However, it has been renovated and the extension and changes (i.e, a modern covered glass balcony) destroy the uniqueness of the art nouveau architecture of the building. One really has to have no taste to destroy something of value. The collection and the changing exhibitions are interesting, but did one really need to “modernize” the art nouveau building?
Very nice and informational museum with beautiful displays.
The biggest problem with the museum is that the most interesting parts of the information are only available in Finnish. There are some signs in English with high level information, but for details of the displayed items I needed to use Google Translate. This was especially noticeable on the second floor where there were barely any English signs.
